The Presidents oversee activity events, planning and ideas, usually acting as a mediator between the rest of the Student Union body and students. The presidents  facilitate communications between staff and the student body. The Presidents act as Chair of the Executive Meetings.

The Secretary takes minutes of Executive and Forum Meetings. Any Executive member, who wishes to add to the proposed schedule of a meeting, must contact the Secretary. The Secretary  produces the agenda for Executive meetings.

Student Union Executive Officers are also Governors on the college Governing Body. All concerns of Executive members (appointed officers of the Student Union) will be voiced to the Governors who can then choose to address the issue with the college’s Senior Management Team or with the Governing Board.

Student Liaison Officer
The Student Liaison Officer is responsible for communicating the policies of the Executive to Union Members (Union Members refers to the general student body). This  involves Chairing the Forum Meetings. This person should also be the first link to the Executive for any Union Members.

The Equality & Welfare Offices
The Equality & Welfare Offices are responsible for the promotion and maintenance of the well-being of BHASVIC students and will work to prevent unfair discrimination of any kind. They take an active role in relevant campaigns and awareness-raising activities in the college. The Officers act as a contact for students who require information or advice regarding equal opportunities or student issues.

Enrichment Officers
The Enrichment Officers are concerned with organizing any Student Union societal events. This will involve: updating the Enrichment charter and ensuring all clubs and societies adhere to these guidelines; booking venues for activities and collecting half termly ‘report on activities’ from each club/society leader

Charity Officer
The Charity Officer co-ordinates the raising and distribution of The Union’s charity donations. Charity Officer is responsible for the collection of information about, and the communication with, relevant charities.

Environment Officer
The Environment Officer works towards a pleasant environment for students to work and socialise within. The Officer also promotes wider “green’ issues, both inside and outside the college. They must oversee recycling programmes within the college. They attend relevant environmental groups within the college and local community where deemed necessary, to liaise with them and report back to the meetings

Health and Safety Officer
The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for the safety of Student Union Events. This involves co-operating with BHASVIC staff in the planning of events and completing the necessary risk assessments.

Communications Officers
The Communications Officers are responsible for promoting and publicising relevant information to students.  This includes publicising information from the Environment, Entertainment, and Welfare Officers, and maintaining the Student Union on line accounts (Instagram).

Entertainment Officers
The Entertainment Officers are responsible for coordinating the organisation of student social events like the end of year review (BHASMAS)They might also work with EDI Officers in the organization of events specific to equality, inclusion and diversity.

The SU Executive currently comprises 17 students, who aim to represent the views of BHASVIC’s student body to College staff, as well as on a local and national level.

  • They organise student social events, as well as raising money for their chosen charities.
  • They aim to look after the welfare of students as well as promoting Equality and Diversity.

The Student Union is an executive body of 17 students responsible for ensuring that every student’s voice is heard.

The Student Union speaks to students on important issues and lobbies for changes that will benefit the student body as a whole. Recently the Union has made changes to Teacher Cover policy, fed into discussions on how to improve the Learner Voice process and represented students on a range of committees.

You can contact your Student Union about any issues in their dedicated office in the Refectory, or via social media. Students can get involved in the Union by standing in the March election.

The Student Union is also responsible for organising a number of social events and parties, from Freshers' Week in September to the Leavers’ Event in summer. The S.U. also run student-led weekly societies. These change year to year but here is a flavour of what's on offer:

  • Celebrating Cultural Diversity
  • Conversation Club
  • Debating Society
  • Christian Union
  • Classics
  • LTBTU+
  • German Society
  • Socialist Society
